ONLINE REVIEW: TV GUIDE - KELVINGTON’S CORNER
I have to be honest, I hadn’t really heard of the Chelsea Handler before I started seeing promo’s for her show, but then again, I hadn’t heard of Conan O’Brian before either. But I have to admit this is a hilarious show! How the hell did E! get a hold of this one? It should be on Comedy Central or NBC.
Now I know that reviewers will make comparison’s to this show and "Chappelle's Show" or others like “The Mind Of Mencia”, and there are some minor similarities, all these shows have a comedian come out and do a little standup then go into filmed bits. But that’s where the similarities end. “The Chelsea Handler Show” is running several IQ points above the other shows. Instead of being racially charged, she is more socially charged. How many shows would do a parody of “Dinner for Five”? I’ll tell you how many, NONE! Because only a few people even know what “Dinner for Five” is. But it turned out to be one of the best bits in the show.
If the rest of the series is as good as this, and this isn’t just an example of a very well written pilot, then I see really big things for Ms. Handler. Her ability to make fun of herself and the world in general is a refreshing change from the shows mentioned above. Also by not featuring herself in every single skit she’s gone from clever actress to someone who can actually make a point without being on screen.
From what I’ve seen of this show, Chelsea Handler is one of the funniest people on TV, not just one of the funniest women. Her lovely good looks, and great smile add to the fact that when she is drawing down on you with great jab, she looks like a million bucks doing it. Not to many shows would do a gay version of “The Apprentice” complete with a “better than Martha Stewart” tag line. But Chelsea’s was dead on and wickedly funny.
My only question would be, how could I get this woman out on a date? Smart, funny, sexy, and good looking? She could certainly be a future Ex-Mrs. Kelvington.
